The Gazelle Fall Race Gratitude Challenge

Longtime Gazelle Foundation supporters and runners Kim and Bernd trained for Paris Marathon and raised money to bring clean water to school children in Burundi. And now they want to challenge you!

This year, during our training for the Paris marathon, we found a new way to focus on being joyful and grateful – we counted every mile we ran in training and committed to donating $1 per mile to others less fortunate than us. The charity of our choice was the Gazelle Foundation.

Throughout the years, Gilbert has taught us a lot about joy and gratitude.

There are many ways to run with joy… say “good morning” to everyone you meet on the trail, run naked without your watch, run with old friends, run with new friends, take a boomerang selfie on the top of Mountain Bonnell.

This year, during our training for the Paris marathon, we found a new way to focus on being joyful and grateful – we counted every mile we ran in training and committed to donating $1 per mile to others less fortunate then us. The charity of our choice was the Gazelle Foundation.

At the end of the marathon, we had each run 549 miles – so, together, we had run enough miles to provide clean water for two classrooms at a local school. As a result of our training, we were able to help bring clean water to Burundi, helping to eliminate waterborne illnesses so children remain healthy, hydrated and in school. That’s a pretty amazing impact, and one that we are grateful to be able to support.

The Challenge

Now, we are ready to take our joy and gratitude to the next level and challenge other runners to count your training miles and donate $1 per mile to the charity that means the most to you. Whether you support clean water, education, housing, animals, healthcare, or another cause – make your miles count.

Will you accept the challenge?

The Gazelle Foundation is fortunate to have supporters like Kim and Bernd.

Providing access to clean water is more than quenching thirst. Regular access to clean water saves lives. Clean water decreases disease rate by 80%. It puts children back into the classroom by giving them time for education. It allows a village to focus on building a future, earning a living, spending time with family—not searching for water.

The Gazelle Foundation is able to make an enormous impact on the everyday lives of Burundians by working closely with them to complete clean water projects one village at a time

The foundation raises money for water projects throughout the year and leads educational projects on the importance of clean water.
