Gilbert Tuhabonye On Joy And Clean Water

Hear Gilbert Tuhabonye, foundation co-founder in this inspiring conversation about finding motivation, three goals to running with joy, his thoughts about equality and the Black Lives Matter movement, and what giving clean water means to him. We think the conversation will inspire you. It was recorded for Austin Fit Magazine with Ricky Doyle.

This gives me a chance to thank the community of Austin for helping us out. We are making a huge difference in people’s lives in Burundi. When you see those children, sometimes I try to picture myself when I was that little, that young, no water in the house, no electricity, and I would go walk miles to go get water. Now those kids have water in their school, they have water by their homes. Going to school, they have water. It makes me appreciate life I have, friendships I have, the community that I live in. It’s just amazing.

Clean water is foundational to reversing the cycle of poverty. In Burundi, one of the poorest countries in the world, waterborne illnesses are the leading cause of death and the majority of the population live in rural, mountainous areas that are difficult to access. For a community there, clean water means better health, stronger community, jobs, education, and most of all: hope. Learn more about the Gazelle Foundation and why water matters.
