March 22 is World Water Day! This is the day each year that the United Nations draws the world’s attention to the 2 billion people globally who live without access to clean water.
In Burundi, one of the poorest countries in the world, waterborne illnesses are the leading cause of death. Clean water helps to reverse the cycle of poverty by improving health, education, and economic opportunities, and it helps us bring hope to a place mostly forgotten by the world.
About the video: Gilbert Tuhabonye on the life-changing impact in this community
Rubanga School is a secondary school in rural Matana Colline, Burundi. The 900 boarding students, plus the faculty and staff who support them, must make a two-mile round trip to fetch unclean water for daily use. The lack of clean water affects every aspect of school life, every single day.
