Learn How you Can Run & Help Bring Transformative Change At The Same Time

Join Us in Austin, November 5th, Run for A Great Cause

Your "why" will bring you to the start line on November 5th.  Whether it's your first or your tenth Run For The Water we are excited to gather with you on race day. Learn about the Gazelle Foundation, Gilbert Tuhabonye, and what you can do to help our friends in Burundi, Africa.

For 17 years running, the Gazelle Foundation has thrown the best race in town. Each November, over 5,000 runners and walkers take to the streets of downtown Austin for the annual Run For The Water 5K, 10-Miler, and Kids K through our beautiful west Austin course.

In honor of this year’s race, and Gilbert's 30th anniversary of life, we are sharing 10 facts about Burundi and the impact of clean water.

  1.  Since the race began in 2009, 45,000 people have lined up at the start line to Run For The Water.

  2. Of those who’ve registered for this year’s race, 40% are signed up for 5k distance.

  3. Run For The Water is a fundraising event benefitting the Gazelle Foundation —100% of event proceeds go to building clean water systems in Burundi.

  4. Waterborne diseases are the leading cause of death in Burundi.

  5. Every water system built reduces or eliminates deadly waterborne diseases.

  6. Clean water is available to all people regardless of tribe or religion, healing divisions and building common ground.

  7. Access to water gives people time to grow food, earn an income, spend time with family, and attend school — all of which are foundational to reducing the cycle of poverty.

  8. Run For The Water is only part of the story. Combined with our other events and your generous donations, 65 water systems have been built bringing clean water to over 125,000 people.

  9. When the construction of a new system kicks off, the life-changing impact begins.

  10. We have built the best community of supporters in the world (that's you!).

We've accomplished a lot, but there is still much to do!

Inspired by Gilbert’s Story?

In remembrance of the tragic events of 1993, and to celebrate the strength and resilience of Gilbert’s 30th anniversary, we are announcing a generous match for all funds raised by our campaign up to $10,000, including monthly donations.

The Gazelle Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
