11th annual Run for the Water--Success!
Gilbert's Anniversary Walk
The Secret to Surviving with Gilbert Tuhabonye
Gilbert was featured on Sarah Brokaw's recent Podcast--Shared Secrets
In 1993, when Gilbert was a junior in high school, he was severely burned in a massacre in the Tutsi-Hutu war of Burundi, witnessing mass murder and barely escaping with his life. He spent three months in the hospital recovering, and was told he'd never walk again. In this episode, Gilbert joins Sarah to describe the path he took from the hopelessness to resilience and triumph. He explains how he aims to create meaning from his experience by helping others in a variety of ways, including his work as a running coach and through the Gazelle Foundation. And he shares the #1 tool he's found for discovering your strength in the wake of adversity. Listen to the episode here.
Austin Gives Miles: Run for the Gazelle Foundation
Run for the Water 2017
Spring for the Water 2017: Two Projects Completely Funded!
We did it! We raised more than $125,000 making this year’s Spring for the Water the most successful in the history of the event! Because of the amazing generosity of our sponsors and attendees, we have completely funded the Muryamurebe-Kigembe Project, which will provide clean water to 2,800 people AND we also completely funded the Karuhaya-Kuntatemwa Water Project, which will provide clean water to another 1,800 people.
Walk for the Water: Thank you, Austin High!
We are so grateful to the Academy for Global Studies (AGS) students at Austin High School for supporting the Foundation through their 2nd annual Walk for the Water event. This year’s event took place on March 10th. AGS students fetched water from Ladybird Lake and then set off for a 3 mile walk on the trail carrying water jugs to represent the average distance that people in developing countries walk in order to get water (often this water is contaminated and barely drinkable).
