The Gazelle Foundation received a generous grant from the Heineken Africa Foundation that will fully fund the Nyakaniga-Gatongo water project bringing clean water to 3,400 people, including 250 local parishioners and 152 school children. We are currently in the second phase of the project.
With two sources secured and one collection chamber completed, local workers are working to complete collection tanks. Workers have finished 2.5 kilometers of hand-trenched pipeline and two of the fourteen tap stands have been installed.
Currently the local villagers walk significant distances to obtain water from small springs and water pools that are not clean. This project, located in the Musenyi of the Songa Commune, will provide access to clean water within a 250-400 meter distance.
We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Heineken Africa Foundation and continue to make a positive and long-lasting impact on the lives of the people in Burundi. More updates to come as the project continues.
