Our fearless co-founder, Gilbert Tuhabonye, is featured on the Running Book Reviews podcast talking about writing This Voice in My Heart: A Runner's Memoir of Genocide, Faith, and Forgiveness, and how running saved his life.
Gilbert shares his story of growing up in Burundi, on a peaceful mountainside surrounded by family, discovering the sport of running as a child, and later surviving ethnic genocide at his school. Gilbert survived but was badly burned and doctors told him he would not run again. But what doctors could not foresee, was the resilience, and greater purpose of Gilbert and his life story.

Connect to Our Annual Road Race: Run For The Water
Since 2006, the Gazelle Foundation has thrown the best race in town. Each November, over 5,000 runners and walkers take to the streets of downtown Austin for the annual Run For The Water 10 Miler, 5K, and Kids K through our beautiful west Austin course.
The race benefits the Gazelle Foundation, dedicated to providing clean water to the people of Burundi. Each registration equals clean water for one person for life. Clean water provides a path out of poverty, bringing access to better health, stronger communities, jobs, education, and most of all: hope.
For those not able to travel to Austin, or who prefer to participate in a virtual event this year, our Global Run 2021 is also available.
