How Investing in Clean Water reverses the cycle of poverty

How Your Investment In Clean Water is Foundational to Reversing the Cycle of Poverty

Three of eight planned tap stands of the Nyagishiha water system, are already providing daily access to the community’s 1,200 residents. But that's only part of the story of the 62nd water system we’ve built in Burundi.

45 local workers have been hired to help with system construction, including masons and plumbers. The workers use their earnings to purchase additional livestock, repair homes, or send their children to school. The average Burundian family lives on less than $600 annually, so our infusion of work in the area aids locals in providing for their families and becoming productive members of their community. Hiring local workers for the projects also develops local knowledge for upkeep and maintenance, as the ownership of all water systems are turned over to the community upon completion.

We also purchase supplies and materials locally, giving the community’s economy a further boost.

Since 2006, we have focused on bringing clean water and transformative change to Burundi. Working in a single, small country means it is easy to track the long-term impact of our systems. We want you to see in detail the outsized impact that your dollars have to real people in need. Our Impact
